At what age can my child use this program?
Every child develops at his/her unique pace. When your child shows an interest in letters, or words, and the sounds of language, this is a good time to introduce The Phonics Wizard Reading Program. For some children, this may happen as young as age two, and for other children they may be older. Some children could already be reading a little, but may need more practice learning their phonetic sounds, which assists in building a strong foundation for reading and spelling.
How are The Phonics Wizard Beginner Reader books different from other beginner reader books?
This set of books is unique because each book gives children targeted practice with a specific short vowel sound. For example, Russ the Pup, gives children practice reading simple words which have a short "u" sound. In addition, each book has just a few common sight words (words which can’t be sounded out phonetically) such as "the", "to", "go", "no" and the rest of the words in the story can be sounded out.
What is the purpose of the Phonics Wizard Alphabet and Phonetic Picture Cards?
In a set, you receive 26 upper-case letters, 26 lower-case letters and the 26 beautiful photographs and pictures that are in the "a for apple" book and are essentially the "words" of the song. The cards create fun, hands-on opportunities to play matching games such as matching upper-case and lower-case letters, matching letters to their phonetic picture cards, and matching rhyming pictures. The Memory Game can also be played. For example, ten picture cards and their ten matching lower-case letter cards can be placed face down. Each person takes a turn trying to find a matching pair. The cards are also wonderful for practicing blending letters. For example, "m" + "a" = ma. Then, a third card can be added for word building practice. For example, "m" + "a" + "t" = mat. You can play with the cards to show your child how words can be changed by changing the first letter, or the middle letter, or the ending letter. The cards are also useful for bringing the activities in the "a for apple" book to life, as children use their hands to create two letter blends and three letter words as shown in the book.
