The Phonics Wizard Reading Series was started in 2006 by Sharon Selby. Sharon has taught many children to read with this program, both internationally and in Canada, including some with learning disabilities, others with English as a Second Language, and children ages 2-7 years. Sharon has been a teacher (B.Ed) and an elementary school counsellor (M.A.), for the past 15 years, and is passionate about the positive relationship between mastering reading and increased self-esteem. She lives in Vancouver, Canada with her husband, daughter (age 3 and an avid reader!) and son (age 18 months and an up-and-coming Phonics Wizard!)
After teaching for many years, and then teaching her own three year old daughter to read, Sharon realized that although there were many learn-to-read phonics programs on the market, many parents were still looking for a more simple, fun yet effective program, that gave the parents step-by-step instructions for teaching their children to read!
Sharon created The Phonics Wizard Reading Series to combine the power of using the following different senses and effective teaching stragtegies:
Auditory - children delight in learning their phonetic sounds with the catchy Phonics Wizard “a for apple' Song.
Visual - Beautiful, full colour pictures accompany every letter depicting a phonetic sound and creating a visual picture-sound association.
Motivating - The Phonics Wizard provides positive reinforcement on every page, along with draw-in-yourself happy faces and a completion certificate.
Experiential - Learning is reinforced through fun and interactive games such as BINGO, I Spy, car games, dinner-table games and more.
Step-by-Step - Clear, concise and engaging lessons with easy-to-follow directions for parents and educators.
